Japan News – 2nd Edition
Back with more of the wonderful, wacky news that makes Japan the unique place to be and visit…as often as you can!
In the Yamaguchi prefecture, we discover that there’s a cat that has learnt a unique ability. Mokkun the cat likes to stand up and drink his water from a watering can. Mokkun’s owners have a shop where the moggy likes to hang out and watch the world go past but when it’s time to feed the plants, Mokkun receives his share of the water as well
To see if this was a one off occurrence, Fuji TV sent a reporter to a cafe that caters specifically for cats to see if the feat could replicated with random kitties. While they seemed into the water, none of the moggies would rise onto their hind quarters for the treat.

Next we have a small public disturbance, down at Yuigahama Beach, in the form of a drunken foreigner who had a slight altercation with the local constabulary over a mistaken case of the stranger thinking someone had knocked over his girlfriend? Loving the calm demeanour of the police with one of them appearing to be almost laughing through some parts of the ordeal. Eventually the foreigner presents some ID where he promptly breaks down and starts crying. At the end though, hands are shaken, the mix up is resolved and the police peacefully escort him off the beach.

And now a story of a family in Kyoto offering to act as a host family for two cats. The families of the two cats were affected by the quake and unfortunately their new lodgings doesn’t permit the keeping of pets so a family had offered to help them out. The cats will stay in Kyoto until the families find better housing that allows them to keep a pet. During the filming of the story, at roughly the 36 second marl, you’ll see one of the escape from its cage and make a break for it! Luckily though, the owner is able to coax the moggy back with some food and help calm him down. Cute, touching and nice to see that even the smallest victims are being looked after.
And lastly we have a chimpanzee in Japan who has been taught how to beat the summer heat
Watch the video and see how Ken Shimura has taught the chimpanzee, Pan-kun, how to use a fan amongst other things as:
- Drinking vegetable juice out of an ice filled beer mug
- Enjoying a foot spa
- Enjoying some edamame
- Chowing down some watermelon
- Cooling down with a fan spraying water
- Eating some cool noodles with chopsticks to boot
- and, using a Japanese handheld fan.
That’s one very cool primate, I personally like the fan spraying water, where can I get one of those!!
