A bit of interesting news coming out of Hollywood recently regarding Tite Kubo’s popular manga, Bleach. Hollywood trade magazine, Variety, is reporting that Warner Bros. has purchased the rights to develop a live action movie based on the massively popular manga and anime.
Last seen working on Wrath of the Titans, Dan Mazeau has taken up the script writing responsibilities while Peter Segal has been named as a possible director as well as handling producing duties. Other people who have been named as producers are Seagal’s business partner Michael Ewing, Jason Hoffs over at Viz Productions and Masi Oka who played Hiro Nakamura in the Heroes television series. The role of Executive producer has been given to Branon Coluccio to take care of.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Bleach and have great respect for its creator Kubo-sensei and the truly original and amazing world he has created in this manga.” Peter Segal
To be completely honest, I’ve often wished for a live action movie based on Bleach, many times as I think the material and the characters are extremely rich and complex. But now that it’s here and being worked on, I only hope that it doesn’t turn out to be a Dragonball: Evolution scenario.
Two last things: hopefully this will turn the frowns upside down of fans who were upset at the recent possible end of the Bleach anime; and secondly, who will they get to play the buxom Rangiku Matsumoto?
