Initial D was a blast of an anime revolving around the world of drift cars and an uneasy hero. The show was popular for its accurate depiction of locales, culture and the cars that were around at the time and made an icon out of the Trueno AE86.
Now a rental car company in Japan plans to give fans a taste of the real thing by arranging tours around the area where the show was set. The fun2drive Owners’ Club will be holding tours through the areas using vehicles from the show based on their real life counterparts. People taking part can choose to drive from the following cars: Mazda MX-5 Eunos Roadster, Honda NSX, Project D: AE86 (Toyota Sprinter AE86 Trueno), Nissan GT-R (Hakosuka-R version, BNR32V-specII, R35), Mazda RX-7 FD3S, Honda BEAT or the Honda S2000 modified.
The tour spans 100km and will be travelling through Nagao Mountain Pass, Tsubaki Line, Hakone Turnpike, and Nanamagari pass in Kanagawa Prefecture. These are locations where the street racing battles took place in the Fifth battle leg of the anime.
Gentlemen, start your engines!
