A bit late this week but here we go again with the latest entry for Gaming Life in Japan, the segment where we take a look at the sales charts for both hardware and software from Japan. Let’s get the ball rolling.
Monster Hunter 4 continues the momentum it generated since launching on September 15, the hugely popular hunting game still holds onto the top spot for software sales. Numbers were down from last week for MH4 but it still sold a respectable 473,739 units taking the total sold well over 2 million units in 2 weeks. Taking the 2nd spot is the latest game for the PS Vita, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Game while the latest entry into the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn takes the 3rd position on the PS3. After that it’s the usual affair with the 3DS titles making up the rest of the top 10 from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Tomodachi Collection: New Life and more. Rounding out the top 10 is a PSP title, La Corda d’Oro: Full Voice Special.
Looking at hardware, no real surprises here with the Nintendo 3DS selling over 158,000 units thanks mainly to Monster Hunter 4 but really, the 3DS sells extremely well in Japan no matter what. The Playstation 3 is still holding strong despite the PS4 being announced for early next year in Japan. The PS3 sold through 10,749 units however the real worry continues to be the Wii U for Nintendo with just a mere 5,824 units sold. I guess they’re still waiting for the first killer app for Nintendo’s home console.
