Yes, that time of the week that always put a smile on our face, Gaming Life in Japan! Let’s jump right in and have a look at the sales figures for the past week straight from Japan!
Looking at the software chart, we can see that Pokemon X/Y is still in the top spot with over 160k units shifted the past week. Positions 2 and 3 were taken up by Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu (PS3) and Danball Senki Wars (3DS) respectively. While Japan’s love of hunting is still on display with Monster Hunter 4 taking up the 4th spot which is where it was last week. Surprisingly though, the Wii U is also in the top 10 this week with the release of Wii Party U. Who would have thought that this would be the game to introduce the Wii U to the top 10? The latest Zelda game couldn’t do it but it looks Japan has a love for party games. Selling just over 37k units sees Wii Party U take the 6th spot this week. The PS Vita is still being represented in 9th spot with Hyperdimension Neptunia Re; Birth. With a Wii U game making the top 10, that means that all the major consoles, apart from the Xbox 360, were represented this week, even the PSP had a title in there.
Looking at the hardware chart sees no surprise in the top spot with the Nintendo 3DS still up there but what is a massive surprise is seeing the Wii U taking out the 2nd spot with over 38k units sold. This is a massive difference from last week’s paltry figure of 2,598 units. The regular 3DS model took out the 3rd spot with just under 30k units shifted for the week. Will the Wii U continue these sales numbers or will it just plummet next week? We hope that this might be the start of some momentum for the Wii U, we do expect a dip in numbers but nothing like what we’ve been seeing for a while now.
We’ll see how it all turns out next week.
