Gaming Life In Japan ~ 13/01/14 – 19/01/14

Games Hardware

Time for Gaming Life in Japan! Let’s take a look at the software and hardware charts for Japan and see what’s been selling after the Christmas rush.

On the software side, we can see that last week’s game which claimed the top spot has done it again. That game being Kirby: Triple Deluxe for the Nintendo 3DS. Second is another previous number one, also for the 3DS, which is Puzzle & Dragons Z. And rounding the top 3 is Pokemon X and Y which is still enjoying healthy sales across Japan. In fact, 7 games in the top 10 are for the 3DS with the number 10 game, Super Mario 3D World, on the Wii U. The other games with a mention are Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster on PS3 and Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Twin Pack for the PS Vita. Good to see Square Enix enjoying some success there.

Looking at hardware, the Nintendo 3DS is still king of the consoles with 32,393 units shifted. A difference of just over 8,000 units from last when the figures were higher. The PS Vita saw 24,755 units sold through, also down from last week but still looking good. The Wii U however, which was enjoying very healthy sales in the Christmas lead up, looks like it’s declining again with 11,443 units shifted across Japan. Also down from last week where it sold through 14,020 units. It’s a shame for the Wii U which is a really underrated system. It’s not all gloom and doom for it but I can only wonder what will happen next month when the PS4 launches.
