Gaming Life In Japan ~ 3/3/14 – 9/3/14

Games Hardware

Time to take a look at the gaming lifestyle straight from Japan with our weekly segment, Gaming Life in Japan!

And just to mix things up a bit, this week a title for the PS Vita cleans up and takes the number one spot on the software chart. That game being Soul Sacrifice Delta charting just under 50K units. Positions 2 and 3 are taken by 3DS titles. Those titles are Yokai Watch and Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Wonderful Mysterious Keys, respectively. Another game for the PS3 that we’ve been covering here lands in number 5, Ar no Surge. No other real surprises on the charts this week, some PS4 titles are having a presence with Knack at number 8 and Battlefield 4 right outside at number 12. As usual, the top 10 is pretty solid for Nintendo with titles Pokemon X/Y and Kirby: Triple Deluxe hanging around.

Taking a look at hardware shows us something interesting however. The PS4 is still at number one but only just. When you combine sales of the 3DS XL (LL) and the regular 3DS, the PS4 is only in front by a mere 200 odd units. Looks the novelty might be wearing off in Japan. The PS Vita has enjoyed a surge in sales thanks to the release of Soul Sacrifice Delta with Sony’s handheld taking the 2nd spot. This week, the PS Vita racked up just over 31K units shifted which is a good sign. Just shows that Japanese gamers will support the handheld as long as they see quality software released for it. On a less positive note is the Wii U with just over 7K in sales for the week which is down from the previous week as well.

Let’s see what happens next week, full charts are below.
