Gaming Life In Japan ~ 5/5/14 – 11/5/14

Games Hardware

Time once again for our weekly installment of Gaming Life in Japan! Let’s see what’s shaking up the charts over in the Land of the Rising Sun this week.

Taking the top spot for software this week is yet again Yokai Watch for the 3DS shifting 58,906 units this week, very impressive when you consider how long the game has been out for. Clawing its way into the second spot is Mario Golf: World Tour also for the Nintendo 3DS. The top three sees Nintendo finishing off the trifecta with Mario Party: Island Tour also for the 3DS. Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment for the PS Vita sits in fourth spot with 15,972 units shifted while Square Enix’s Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call takes the fifth position. Skipping forward a bit to number seven, we see a previous number one make a new entry into the top ten with Pokemon X and Y. Number ten is Animal Crossing: New Leaf showing that Japanese gamers love resurrecting previous number one’s. In fact, no new game is in the top ten this week and Nintendo still managed to claim nine out of the ten games, amazing.

Youkai-Watch

Let’s shift our gaze towards hardware which sees the 3DS LL shifting 28,414 units as the PS Vita takes second spot with 17,143 handhelds sold. The PlayStation 4 takes the third spot with 8,480 consoles finding its way into gamers’ hands this past week. The Wii U sold a respectable 7,613 units this week as well which is a promising sign.
