Hatsune Miku and Vocaloid

Anime Expo recently closed in LA but not before star, Hatsune Miku, brought the Nokia Theatre down with a J-Pop performance that left fans wanting more. What makes this a standout is that Hatsune doesn’t exist and is a virtual idol projected onto the stage with the aid of mirrors and lasers. So what is Vocaloid? Vocaloid is a piece of software that can emulate perfectly a singing voice. So a female singer’s voice would have been scanned and processed into the software leaving the user able to make any song this wish. Apparently there is an English version coming but it ain’t cheap with costs running well over just a few hundred dollars. There’s a video below of people who are curious as to how this was achieved, how a virtual singer could hold the attention of an audience while a live band played alongside her. I for one, and this should go without saying, would have been in attendance in a heartbeat if I had been in the area but fat chance 🙁
