So the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will be hitting both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 but have you been wondering which hardware to buy for if you have both? Well hopefully this will clear it up. MGS HD Collection includes MGS2 with some content from the Substance re-release and MGS3 Subsistence. Now, if you buy the PS3 version, you also get a code to download MGS1 from the PSN but Xbox 360 owners don’t have PSN and MGS1 isn’t available for the Xbox Live Arcade so 360 owners receive…an avatar item instead.
Let’s look at Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker HD Edition for the PS3, gamers will be getting a code to download the PSP version of Peacewalker as well as a nice touch. You might ask why and what for as you’re already buying the game for the PS3? Well, with both the PS3 and the PSP verison, you’ll be able to get into a little “transfarring”. Transfarring, for the cheap seats at the back, is the phrase coined by series creator, Hideo Kojima, whereby you’ll be able to transfer your save game from the PS3 to the PSP and vice versa. So you can play in the comfort of your home before copying the save game to the PSP and continue the action on the road. Nice. In lieu of all that goodness, Xbox 360 owners forfeit the transfarring action and get…an avatar item instead.
This is a useful guide for anyone thinking of importing from Japan as this only applies to the Japanese versions. Japan will be selling Metal Gear Solid HD separate from Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker HD Edition. The US and Europe version of the Collection will be shipping with Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Peace Walker.
