In what comes as no surprise to this Resident Evil since the first outing way back when on the PS1, Capcom’s latest offering from the zombie franchise has sold through the roof in Japan. Upon release last week in Japan, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, sold 252,525 units on PS3 and 16,285 copies on the Xbox 360.
The game managed outsell another recent game in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil Revelations on the 3DS, which sold 158,012 units in its first week. What these numbers actually translate to is that Operation Raccoon City managed to sell through 80% of its allocated stock for Japan.
Breaking it down by console, 85.48% of the PS3 stock sold while the Xbox 360 sold through 83.41% of stock allocated to the Microsoft console. All that remains to be seen now is does it have enough momentum to keep it moving in the right way or will the sales start to drop off?
We’ll keep you posted.
