Makers of the latest instalment in the ‘Ring’ series of movies, Kadokawa Pictures, have confirmed that a sequel to the recent ‘Sadako 3D’ movie has been green lit. The sequel will be hitting Japanese theatres sometime during Summer 2013.
This May saw the release of ‘Sadako 3D’ across 213 screens which also marked the first movie in the series to be shown in 3D. The movie was a runaway success, especially with teenagers, where it garnered ¥1,500,000,000 or approximately $19,228,500 USD. The man who helmed that movie, director Hanabusa Tsutomu, been placed in charge of the sequel as well, the difference this time around is that the entire film will be shot in 3D.
‘Sadako 3D’ saw the main role being filled by Ishihara Satomi while the main character herself, Sadako, was portrayed by Hashimoto Ai. The sequel however will see an entirely new cast stepping into the shoes of the cast. From what we hear of the story so far, the sequel will be taking place a few years after Sadako 3D while a new girl will be introduced who has inherited Sadako’s genes. Suzuki Koji, author of the original Ring story, will be penning the sequel, while advising that this movie will be explaining the resurrection behind Sadako.
Filming starts early in 2013 and you can be assured that Japandaman will be keeping a close eye on this one, we’re huge fans of the series.
