I’m a massive fan of the K-Pop group, BIGBANG and when I first saw this DVD boxset being released for their current tour, I just had to get it! The first chance I got, I went to Tower Records in Shibuya, headed straight to the K-Pop section and there it was…mine! Here’s the unboxing which shows some very cool stuff inside.
Newly launched variety show in Korea, Incarnation, which replaces Strong Heart features idols from the K-Pop arena to talk about different topics and issues.
On the most recent show which just aired in Korea, two stars from one of the biggest groups were the special guests. G-Dragon and Daesung from Bigbang took to the stage for a frank discussion about keeping promises. Daesung was the first to bring up the sensitive topic of not keeping promises by saying, “I usually can’t break up with a girl first. The times when I’m the most sorry are from the small things. Like when you watch a movie, say something related to the Tokyo Tower, she’d say things like, ‘Next year, I wish we could go to the Tokyo Tower’. And of course I’d say, ‘Yeah, let’s do that’. I’d feel sorry that I couldn’t keep those promises.” He added, “I make a lot of promises, like, ‘I’ll always be next to you, or ‘I’ll be your last man’.”
When G-Dragon was pressed on the same topic, he calmly responded, “I don’t make promises.” He explained, “You don’t know what will happen in the future. The reason why I haven’t made promises is because rather than making promises I can’t keep, I would rather do my best in the moment.”
One of the show MC’s, Yoon Jong Shin, wanted to know a bit more about the promises that Daesung had kept. At this, Daesung hesitated for a second before saying, “Once I made a promise to be by her side whenever she was sick.” He the turned to look at G-Dragon before bursting out laughing. G-Dragon sat there confused by what was happening, Daesung then had to add, “One day, Big Bang was headed to Japan. But that day, my girlfriend was really sick. At that time, we had Japanese activities starting from the next day. It was okay for me to go to Japan a day after everyone. I pretended that I lost my passport so I could stay with my girlfriend for an extra day.”
G-Dragon looked genuinely surprised as he believed all this time that Daesung had actually lost his passport. Talk about confessing in front of your leader. Awkward.
Official music chart keepers in Japan, Oricon, have recently posted their list of the best concerts to have seen in Japan for 2012. Bigbang’s Alive Tour 2012 in Japan came in at a respectable #5 while another K-Pop boyband, 2PM, came in at #6 with their 2PM Live 2012 Six Beautiful Days tour.
Amongst the positive reviews for both groups, Oricon said the following statements, first off, Bigbang: “We were amazed at the high level of performance. The strongly addictive songs and the remarkable creativity in every aspect made it clear that big artists from out of this world have arrived.”
They had equally positive comments about 2PM adding, “Although a member was injured prior to the concert so the odds were against them to perform with a 100% satisfactory performance, they were still able to achieve a handsome six-day stage. Their charms are their dancing with their strong built figures and the quality of their songs in addition to the members’ characters. They were able to shows their individual charms through their solo stages that changed each day and brought the fans to their feet. It was a large scale performance that made the stage feel cozy.”
G-Dragon, who leads Korean boyband Bigbang, has made an appearance on KBS 2TV‘s ‘Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook‘ which prompted a record number of people to rush and apply for tickets.
The cause for the rush was the reported news that G-Dragon planned to show a softer side to himself which hasn’t been seen on stage yet. One song which was a particular highlight was Missing You, from the new album, One of a Kind. This song is performed on the new album with Kim Yoona from group, Jaurim. However he is planning to take to the stage and perform it with Minzy from labelmates, 2NE1.
He also performed hit, Crayon, as well as One of a Kind and crowd favourite, This Love. Tickets were sold at a rate of 75:1 with the tickets being handed out via a lottery system.
Hopefully we’ll be able to show some footage soon.
Awesome news today with the announcement that K-Pop girl group, KARA, have been signed to perform at Tokyo Dome. This means that KARA is the first girl group to be signed to perform a concert at the famous hall. Yesterday, the girls announced that they would be undertaking their ‘2012 Sigma Festival in Okinawa‘ with the concert at Tokyo Dome to take place on January 6th.
KARA have only been making inroads into the highly competitive Japanese market for just under 3 years so it’s quite a coup to snag the Done which houses 50,000 people and also has the reputation of being the place that a large number of Japanese artists aspire to perform at. Previously, the only other K-Pop artists to perform at the venue have been Bigbang, TVXQ! and Rain, all of them being male artists.
Coincidentally, KARA are also in Japan right now in the middle of promotions for their next track, ‘Electric Boy’ after wrapping up promotions in Korea for ‘Pandora‘, their comeback single.
TOP, the lead rapper from Korean boyband Bigbang has dabbled in acting before in Korean dramas both for television and the big screen. He was recently at work on a new production for the cinema called, “Alumnus”, when news broke from the set that production has come to a sudden halt.
Park Eun Kyung, who is the head of the production company in charge of “Alumnus” said via a phone call with Starlin that, “Director Park Shin Woo has stepped down from the movie. The differing perspectives became a reason for the change in directors.”
So that currently leaves the movie in limbo with only a third of the film being shot and the staff scrambling looking for a new person to helm the movie.
Kyung also added, “We are currently in the process of selecting a new director. The issues we will have to face because of the change in directors, such as the portion filmed by director Park, will be resolved after discussing it with the new director.”
Despite this setback, all the lead actors including T.O.P., Cho Sung Ha, Yoon Jae Moon, Kim Yoo Jung and Han Yeri will continue the lead the same roles.
The movie “Alumnus” is about Myunghoon who by trying to save his sister needs to gain access to South Korea and take up the mantle of an assassin. The movie was due for release later this year but with this development, it’s all up in the air when the movie will be completed and see the light of day.
G-Dragon, the eponymous leader of K-Pop super group, Bigbang, launches his second foray into solo territory with the release of, “One of a kind”, the first track released from his upcoming second album of the same name.
The amazing new track plays host to a thumping hip hop bass line with a gritty rap tone giving the listener a new insight to G-Dragon’s creative mind. This release is vastly different from, “Heartbreaker”, his first solo album which tended to stay within the safe confines of pop music. His collaboration album with fellow Bigbang member, TOP, also straddled this same line but with this release, we’re able to see how he has grown as an artist, experimenting with a new style which he manges to bring all together in an impressive package.
The track does bear some resemblance to early 90’s G-Funk sound pioneered by American stars, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G, but that’s where the similarities end as the track takes its own path and never imitates those artists. The track is basically G-Dragon announcing to everyone his merits and how he’s a force to be reckoned with, here to stay. Ripping out lyrics such as, “Because I’m different, that’s just me”, “Because people go crazy over anything I do”, he knows the effect he has on fans. From his beliefs to his music and industry recognised fashion sense, G-Dragon acknowledges all this without sounding pompous, merely thankful for his status.
This track may take some people a couple of listens to get into but make no mistake, you’d be doing yourself a massive disservice by not giving this a go, this is G-Dragon in fine form creating new sounds with lyrics as only he can. If you watch the MV, another Bigbang member, Taeyang, makes a cameo appearance right at the end which is great to see.
“Because I’m different, that’s just me”, yes G-Dragon, he definitely is.
Highly impressive first release from the eagerly awaited second album, get onto it!
It was only a few months back that Korean boyband, Bigbang, released their comeback EP, ‘Alive’. Well, now the boys have released the Special Edition of that same EP called ‘Still Alive’.
So what are the differences? Is it better than Alive? Should you buy it? All these more and will be answered below.
First of all, this new EP shares the same massive hits as Alive, those being Blue, Bad Boy, Love Dust and the massive hit, Fantastic Baby. So for the purpose of this review, I’ll leave them out seeing as how they’re identical versions with no difference.
Still Alive started off as an intro track to the previous EP and only ran for just under one minute. I did at the time say that this had the potential to be a great track only if it were longer. Well, lo and behold, they’ve done just and released onto the album as a proper full length track and it sounds awesome. A great thumping beat over club drums give make this track standout along with an awesome rap from TOP, real stand out track. Nicely paced with a simple piano loop and unobtrusive synthesizer sounds round this off as a tight production.
The first track to be released, and at last count the MV has had over 2 million hits in 24 hours. And for good reason, this track is an absolute hit and demonstrates what the boys are capable of and indeed what an extremely talented lyricist and story teller that G Dragon is developing into. Easily the most mature track they’ve done to date, this track of a lost love and acceptance of a person is very well played out with a beautiful subtle orchestra in the background and a piano section over the entire length that is to die for. Beautiful, touching and very rare in today’s market to have such a heartfelt track with a traditional medium tempo beat laid over it. This is the track that will define Bigbang as more than a flash in the pan, this track proves they are here to stay and will only help to further define them. AAA+++
Another catchy dance track with a pulsating bass and a great vocal turnout from Daesung. Cool chorus with lots of finger tapping moments, simple without having to resort to over production and having loads of sound samples and effects in the background, Nicely done.
Great track with a guitar driven riff, very easy to get into. More of a rock beat as opposed to a dance track but Bigbang cover their tracks as only they can and pull it off making it sound accessible to a mainstream audience. Try not to sing along to the chorus as well, it’s simple and very catchy.
An easy listening track with gentle vocals that plays on the dance track/pop song genre. Never fully committing to either but still comes across very well. Some might say that it maybe the weakest track on the album if they really had to choose but after having spent some time with it, it’s really begun to grow on me. Really smooth vocals from G Dragon and Co. help to keep this song on that tricky line but they pull it off in a seamless manner.
Another stellar effort from Bigbang, this comes highly recommended and your ears will thank you!
Brand spanking new on the interwebs, Korean super boyband, Bigbang, are back with a nice addition to the earlier ‘Alive EP’ release. The new EP just released at midnight today ‘Still Alive’ expands on the earlier EP with new tracks and a runaway smash hit with the first single release, Monster.
Catch the clip below and check out the stunning clip with action aplenty and the boys looking great in fantastic make up and special effects.
Tokyo Fashion was reporting that last night was the Shibuya Fashion Festival in Tokyo. Well, supposed to be however due to the rainy weather in Japan at the moment, there was no one was actually around to capture on film…for shame, Tokyoites 🙁
Instead though, they managed to snap the two awesome posters seen below. Bigbang is making an impact in Japan with their recent ‘Alive’ EP and also stable mates on the record company, 2NE1, who are often referred to as the female Bigbang.
