Christian Svensson, Capcom USA’s Senior Vice-President, has recently confirmed something that no one wanted to hear. The Lost Planet spin-off, E.X. Troopers on the Nintendo 3DS, more than likely, will not be seeing a release in the West. The news was released via Capcom’s Unity Forums leaving gamers asking “why?”
The reason being given is that the in-game text isn’t laid over the graphics rather they’ve been hard coded into the actual game itself. Normally with games that feature subtitles, the subs can just be changed during localisation, however this is different with this title. For this game to be released outside Japan, the in-game art would have to be redesigned from scratch.
“You can tell this because all of the text is ‘hard coded’ as actual art. The text isn’t just standard ‘text’ that could be swapped relatively easily.”
“To localize a release, one would have to redo a ton of art in the game, not just do the localization and loc QA.”
E.X. Troopers has been released in Japan but that hasn’t stopped Capcom from releasing a couple of new trailers for it. The Lost Planet spin-off hit store shelves in Japan on November 22nd and while we can look at it with envious eyes, with any luck Capcom will see the light of day and bring it to the West as well.
In shattering news, we hear that Capcom has no plans to bring the Lost Planet spin-off, E.X. Troopers for the Nintendo 3DS, to the Western World. Christian Svensson, who holds the mantle of Capcom’s Consumer Software Senior VP has advised fans via the Capcom Unity Forums has shattered hope for gamers outside of Japan with these news.
The justification was, “No because EX Troopers isn’t part of the LP series officially (thus the difference in name) nor are there plans to bring it Westward at this time.”
Does this mean Japandaman will have to purchase a Japanese 3DS next week? Hmm…maybe…
Well the dust has settled on another Nintendo Direct broadcast which ran last night and there were tons of news to get through especially for the 3DS. And one of those games was the Lost Planet spin-off, E.X. Trooper. Previous clips of this game seemed to have focussed on the in game footage from the PS3 version but last night, the emphasis was on the 3DS version which is looking great.
Have a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think.
Some new footage has emerged from the Lost Planet spin-off, E.X. Troopers, courtesy of the recent Capcom Game Jam event held last month in Japan.
A couple of interesting tidbits of news have emerged, the first being that the game is being helmed by none other than Yasuhiro Anpo, director of Resident Evil 5 and the game will have co-op multiplayer worked into the game. Even though the event was last month, the footage has only just seen the light of day and features running commentary, which is in Japanese, as well as a trailer to round off the whole presentation.
No firm release date as yet but all Capcom have said is that the game will touch down in Japan for both PS3 and 3DS sometime this year.
Following on from our recent post about the Lost Planet spin-off, bound for the 3DS, today we can show the debut trailer for the game as well as the official site with more info.
