There was a recent crossover collaboration in Japan between highly acclaimed cult classic anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion and, of all things, the Shinkansen service. It gets better with the reveal that travellers on the Evangelion service will also be able to purchase some very cool crossover goodies. Details below!
Here’s a great looking figure that manages to combine two of the biggest franchises with the largest fan base. Evangelion and Transformers. June 12 marks the day that pre-orders start for this amazing looking Takara Tomy Transformer / Evangelion Masterpiece Optimus Prime EVA Mode.
There will only be 1000 models available which explains why the price is over $300 for this baby.
The Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, is a very busy person of late. He’s been on a European tour lately going to Germany, UK, Portugal, Spain, France and Belgium. While he was in the area, he went past Paris to take a look at the “Evangelion and Japanese Swords” exhibition which is taking place at the Maison de la culture du Japon a Paris.
The exhibition showcases different Japanese swords inspired by the world of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The Prime Minister had the following to say about the event.
“Anime is very popular in France. Utilizing Japan’s strengths will help the growing of the economy. A collaboration between a modern anime and a traditional swordsmanship is one of the new ways to promote ‘Cool Japan’ to the world.”
So you want to travel around Tokyo but you know, with that little extra flair? How about catching one of these amazing looking Evangelion buses that have made a comeback after originally appearing back in 2012 around the Hakone region. Hakone is the basis for the Tokyo-3 area seen in the series.
This snazzy new bus shows off Kaworu, Asuka, Shinji, Rei and Mari wearing stylish yukatas while the inside of the bus sees similar decorations on the ticket machine, windows and the luggage compartments.
It’s a fair statement to say that most of the anime storylines occur in Tokyo however one major series took place in the Kanagawa Prefecture.
That series was Neon Genesis Evangelion. And the area that looks suspiciously like Tokyo-3 is Hakone. So commencing on March 25, citizens that have a registered vehicle will be able to attach an Evangelion themed licence plate to their car, scooter, motor bike or any other road vehicle. As you can see from the pics below, they look pretty cool and very much an otaku must have. The plates come in four different colours with well known landmarks such as Mt. Fuji, Hakone Shrine and Lake Ashinoko.
There are only 390 plates to pick up but given that there are only 769 registered drivers, availability shouldn’t be a huge issue.
Another product that has the official Evangelion stamp has just been released for pre-order and has also been inspired by Asuka Shikinami Langley. The product are headphones in a lush red colour, which her outfit shares and have been approved by Bandai Premium that will also carry the two pins that Asuka carries on her cap in third Eva movie, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo.
The headphones will be priced at ¥3,980 and will be released in January 2014. For more information and maybe drop your own pre-order, check out the Premium Bandai page.
Figure collectors will have a new Evangelion figure to add to their collection soon with the news of an Asuka Langley Shikinami coming soon. The figure is part of “Rebuild of Evangelion” and is coming courtesy of figure builder, Arcadia.
The figure has been put together by highly experienced sculptor, Cerberus Project TM, and has been tagged as a C:MO, or “creative motion model”. The figure promises to bring a new level of customisation via the highly posable abilities of the model. This release is actually the 2nd as part of “Rebuild of Evangelion” with the Rei Ayanami release a little while back.
