A decent short fan film around anime, “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” with some amazing level of detail in the costumes, great visual effects and locales that fit the action has recently hit the interwebs.
It was produced by Ray Lum, a cosplay photographer, directed by Trevor Tse Studios and also featuring a handful of cosplayers who have all put together a great tribute to a popular series. You can have a look at the short below along with some cosplay photographs. Underneath the photos, you’ll be able to find a credits list as well as links to the people involved so you can Facebook stalk them, you know, if that’s your kind of thing.
One of the newest and original titles that Square Enix have released recently looked like it would not be leaving Japan and gamers in the West would be missing out on an awesome, unique experience.
During the recent Game Developers Conference, a Western release of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, an RPG for the 3DS, seemed to be on the cards. Although this has yet to be confirmed by Square Enix themselves, Siliconera spoke with several trusted sources at the GDC who dropped hints that yes, it will come to the West.
Silicon Studio’s game is similar to Final Fantasy titles by having a battle and job system similar to games in that series. Silicon Studio are also the team responsible for 3D Dot Game Heroes. Once we hear of official confirmation from SE, we’ll let you know about it.

Weekly sales charts time! Our favourite time has rolled around again, the time we can see what software is shifting and how hardware is selling. And although the PS Vita enjoyed a brief week at number one, it’s the Nintendo 3DS that has managed to reclaim the top spot for the past few weeks.
But credit to the PS Vita, its sales have jumped up considerably since the price cut, selling through 31,795 units, it’s down from last weeks figure of 41,073 units but still a sight better than the sub 10k units it was shifting a month ago.
As usual, the software and hardware charts can be found below.
[3DS] Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
[PSP] Fate/Extra CCC
[3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf
[PS3] One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2
[PSV] Muramasa Rebirth
[Wii U] Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online
[PSP] Dungeon Travelers 2: Ouritsu Tokoshan to Mamono no Fuuin
Nintendo held one of their popular Nintendo Direct broadcasts yesterday during which they showed the new Super Mario AR cards that’ll be available soon. The prepaid cards will be hitting Japan on April 23rd with no confirmation of other regions as yet.
The card will differ in value ranging from ¥1000, ¥2000 and ¥3000 with different characters available on the cards. The software that you’ll need to interact with these cards, called “Isshoni Photo” which translates as “take a picture together”, will be made for download from the eShop using a QR code that will come packages with the card. The big difference between these AR cards and the ones that ship with your 3DS is that these cards will allow the characters to interact with each other as well as give you the ability to take these characters to different locations with you. You’ll also be able to recreate familiar in-game animations from the Mario Universe.
Walkthrough video of how it’ll work, looks pretty cool!
The three characters available at launch will be Goomba, Mario and Princess Peach with Koopa Troopa, Luigi and Bowser confirmed as coming later on at the same price system as the first three. No date when they’ll be released though as yet.
We showed you the other day the new forthcoming game from Suda51, Killer is Dead. Today we can show you the second new trailer complete with English voice overs.
This collaboration betweem Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games is shaping up nicely as noir thriller with a touch of the Suda51 weirdness. Should be an interesting game when released for both Xbox 360 and PS3.
J-Pop idol, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, is on her world tour as we speak and now we can show what lucky attendees can expect in the way of a souvenir t-shirt. Knowing what she’s about and how much pop is in her music, you’d probably be expecting something pink, yellow or some other fluffy colours?
After looking at the picture, you’d be wrong, with Kyary opting for a more metal look to her t-shirt. The picture was tweeted by Kyary herself. Who saw this design coming?
It’s been a busy past few days in Japan with the Tokyo Anime Fair held at the Big Sight and the 2nd annual Anime Contents Expo 2013 wrapping up this weekend. The ACE is a chance for all different sorts of exhibitors to be in attendance showing off their latest lines and what they have coming up.
This year saw Bushiroad, Ascii Media Works, Animate, Good Smile Company, Cospa plus loads more bringing their merchandise, trading cards, games plus sneak peeks at upcoming anime movies such as Ghost in the Shell: Arise. The ACE was held in the same hallowed halls that hosts Japandaman’s favourite annual event Tokyo Game Show, that being Makuhari Messe.
Japan based blogger, Danny Choo was in attendance and managed to snap all the amazing images you can see below, so a big thank you for the kind use of the images.
A few of you have probably seen this already but it’s so awesome, we thought we’d post it as well. The trailer previously known as a teaser called The Phantom Pain launched a barrage speculation on the interwebs with many claims of this being the new Metal Gear Solid V. And this time, speculation was correct.
The trailer from the recent GDC, show off the Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine which looks amazing. Incredible texture detail on the faces of the medical staff, rain effects and more. No doubt this game will have a huge presence at Tokyo Game Show ’13!
