A few of you have probably seen this already but it’s so awesome, we thought we’d post it as well. The trailer previously known as a teaser called The Phantom Pain launched a barrage speculation on the interwebs with many claims of this being the new Metal Gear Solid V. And this time, speculation was correct.
The trailer from the recent GDC, show off the Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine which looks amazing. Incredible texture detail on the faces of the medical staff, rain effects and more. No doubt this game will have a huge presence at Tokyo Game Show ’13!
Metal Gear series creator, Hideo Kojima, was recently speaking to EGM about the Metal Gear series and development of games outside the MGS franchise. He has previously mentioned that he’d love to do some work on games that aren’t Metal Gear related however he invariably always returns to the series he made famous but there is also a positive spin to this.
“I’m often misinterpreted,” Kojima feels. “I’ve always said that I want to work on original properties, but Metal Gear offers plenty of benefits. The Fox Engine, for example, took a lot of time and money [to create]; we were only able to develop it because it was intended for the next Metal Gear.”
Kojima then continues to add: “In the next game, I’m introducing concepts intended for entirely new intellectual properties using the Metal Gear brand.”
IS the next game he’s referring to Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes or maybe something that hasn’t had the covers taken off yet? However Hideo is also currently involved with another project, a game called Project Ogre, a game which utilises the Fox Engine.
Exciting artwork has emerged from today’s Metal Gear’s 25th Anniversary event. The image seen below is courtesy of Konami and the Fox Engine game, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes.
Information found on the Famitsu.com site reveals that MGS Ground Zeroes is the name given to the demo, developed by Kojima Productions, which runs the Fox Engine.
The more exciting part however is that this demo is being developed into an open world game with the current demo running on a pc that has similar specifications to both the PS3 and the Xbox 360. As well as all that though, there are reports that Kojima Prod. are also working on a game for the next generation of console. No news yet if this is related to the MGS series but if the open world game looks anything like the image, this will be a game will be a system seller.
Kojima Productions are currently hard at work recruiting new talent who could end up working on the next Metal Gear Solid game. And to separate the contenders from the pretenders, here’s a question that they’re posing during the interview:
“The 2 sets of images below depict our Kojima Productions meeting room. One set is comprised of digital photographs, while the other contains screenshots of the scene recreated in the Fox Engine and rendered in realtime. Can you tell which is Fox?”
Amazingly, the images on the right have been engineered in the Fox Engine while the pics are on the left are real bonafide photographs, truly amazing.
Here are some examples of the Fox Engine in action, one can only imagine what the next series of games will look like when powered by the Fox Engine.
