Golden Week is a period of time in Japan where there happens to be a number of public holidays bunched close together so much so that a lot of companies close work for 1 week and celebrate the event. It’s during this time that a golden topped ice cream might seem like a great idea!
Two restaurants have actually taken up the challenge and begun to dip their ice creams in a very thin layer of gold plating for that extra special touch. The gold layer itself doesn’t have any flavouring but people are reporting that it does add a special texture to each bite. The cones are normally sold for ¥500 however a golden dipped cone will set you back ¥1000 so it’s a bit extra for something that is purely aesthetic and doesn’t add anything new to your tastebuds.
