The weekend that just passed saw the commencement of the convention season for 2015 with Supanova rolling into Melbourne. Melbourne is the first of many stops for the Supanova train. Always attracting many Supa Star guests, this year was no different. From Christopher Lloyd from Back to the Future, George Takei from Star Trek, Charisma Carpenter from Buffy and Angel, Jason David Frank from Power Rangers and loads more!
A convention of this calibre is always a great spot for cosplayers to converge and show off what they’ve been working on, sometimes up to months before the actual event. They come from all over Australia to meet up and arrange photoshoots and make new friends. Here’s a photo album from the IJM Facebook page.
Japandaman was on site doing his duties for TV show It’s Japan, Man! along with co-host, the always kawaii Neko. This year IJM decided to put together a little cosplayer highlights video so even if you couldn’t make it, this video will give you an idea of the fun that went down.
Hope you’ve had a look at the photo gallery above, now here’s the It’s Japan, Man! cosplay video highlight reel.

It’s been a busy past few days in Japan with the Tokyo Anime Fair held at the Big Sight and the 2nd annual Anime Contents Expo 2013 wrapping up this weekend. The ACE is a chance for all different sorts of exhibitors to be in attendance showing off their latest lines and what they have coming up.
This year saw Bushiroad, Ascii Media Works, Animate, Good Smile Company, Cospa plus loads more bringing their merchandise, trading cards, games plus sneak peeks at upcoming anime movies such as Ghost in the Shell: Arise. The ACE was held in the same hallowed halls that hosts Japandaman’s favourite annual event Tokyo Game Show, that being Makuhari Messe.
Japan based blogger, Danny Choo was in attendance and managed to snap all the amazing images you can see below, so a big thank you for the kind use of the images.
2012 marks the 25th anniversary for Metal Gear Solid and already there have been quite a few celebrations that we’ve covered and seen at Tokyo Game Show. Now there’s a new set of merchandise for the fan or the collector, MGS character keyrings which you can see below.
Set One has the following bundled with it: Solid Snake, Meryl Silverburgh, Otakon, Roy Campbell, Mei Ling, and Grey Fox.
While Set Two comes with Liquid Snake, Revolver Ocelot, Vulcan Raven, Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, and Decoy Octopus.
Each set will cost you ¥3,150 and will be hitting Japan sometime in November. Check your favourite importer so you don’t miss out!
The Supanova Pop Culture Expo for 2012 in Melbourne, Australia continued on into Sunday, during the past weekend with what appeared to be an even bigger crowd than on Saturday. As usual, Melbourne put on a spectacular display with the fantastic weather ensuring that no one was kept away.
The cosplayers were out in force and it was great to see new characters being represented as well as seeing some familiar faces from Saturday too.
I made it to a few of the guest panels seeing Oliver and James Phelps otherwise known as the Weasley Twins from Harry Potter fame as well as gifted young actor, Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl in The Walking Dead. Both panels were fun to attend with interesting questions being asked and at times hilarious answers being given by the guests.
I will go on record right now and say that next year, I will be cosplaying…as what, well I haven’t quite figured that part out as yet but I’ll keep you posted.
Farewell Supanova for another year, it was great seeing you again 🙂
Apologies for the late update but the photos have decided to play nice and let themselves be seen by the public at large at long last.
Well, the Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Melbourne, Australia, kicked off with a lonnng queue to buy tickets, must remember to pre-register next time, but it was worth it. Celebrating the tenth anniversary of Supanova has been handled by expanding the pop culture festival with far more floor space than it has ever occupied which explains why it’s changed halls from where it’s normally been held.
We saw a few of the stars in attendance from Summer Glau of ‘The Sarah Connor Chronicles’ to Peter Facinelli or Carlisle Cullen as the Twihards like to call him. Apparently, the Weasley Twins, Oliver and James Phelps from the Harry Potter universe, were also there but commanded the largest lines with waits for autographs well over 2 hours! Didn’t catch a glimpse of them at all, far too many people around them at all times.
Tons of cosplayers which is always great to see, see for yourself in the pics below. Vids will follow but they require some touching up before they’re ready. The pics in the gallery below speak a thousand words so check them out and a big thank you to the cosplayers for posing for me, greatly appreciated!!
The Supanova Pop Culture Expo rolls into town this weekend and Japandaman Dailies will be there to cover the event for you. So make sure to check back over this weekend to check out the special guests, sights, cosplayers and just what goes on at one of the largest pop culture events that Australia hosts!
We’ll be there from about midday onwards on both days with a recap at the end of each day full of pics and maybe the odd video and hopefully some star gazing will be had.
