Time for another instalment of sales charts from Japan and its great to see that Animal Crossing New Leaf is back in the number one position. However it’s a bit troubling to see the Wii U not doing as well as expected on the hardware charts coming in at 4th place after the PS3.
Great to see the PS Vita having a presence on the software charts with Demon Gaze making an impact in 4th position. And for a change, Nintendo only has 2 positions in the software charts this time around as a first party publisher.
Nintendo still dominates the hardware sales charts for this week while in software, four out of the top ten are on Nintendo hardware. Still a great effort for the week, the PS Vita meanwhile is still struggling to find a solid fan base despite the round of commercials that Sony are currently pushing in Japan.
The aging PSP still manages to outsell the newer and far more powerful Vita, Sony executives must be beyond worried by now, not knowing what to expect next?
Anyways, enough jibber jabber, roll the sales charts.
Dating sim game for the 3DS, New Love Plus, did great business in Japan during Valentine’s Day with the popular and delayed dating sim shooting to the top of the software sales charts in Japan. The title was supposed to have been released in December but Konami held back the release to coincide with Valentine’s Day.
The game sold a whopping 104,969 units beating both newcomers Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for 3DS and Binary Domain. The previous entry in the dating sim sold 88,000 copies during its first week on the DS back in July 2010. Binary Domain on PS3 took second place while the Xbox 360 version didn’t even make the top 20.
Rhythm 3DS game, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, placed third with 67,683 units shifted. There were some other memorable games making their first entry into the top 20 like Samurai Warriors 3Z Special for PSP, the Vita and 3DS versions of Good People Die and Tekken 3D on 3DS. Surprisingly is that the adventure game from Chunsoft on 3DS is beating the Vita version.

The PS Vita seems to be making a slow comeback with the latest sales charts showing the struggling handheld make it’s way into the top 20 with Tales of Innocence R, which interestingly is a remake of a DS game, selling 55,000 units in its first week. Sure to put a smile on the face of Vita owners is the announcement by Namco Bandai, that it intends on remaking past Tales games for the handheld.
Resident Evil Revelations also made an impact on the charts selling 147, 000 units which is comparison to the past RE title Mercenaries which sold only 58,792 in its first week, is sure to put a smile on the face of Capcom executives.

The Media Create sales charts in japan are reporting that the PS3 has taken over the sale charts for the time being. First at the top of the charts is the spiritual successor to Demons Souls, Dark Souls, with 279,567 units sold accounting for the top spot. And despite the game shipping with a few unresolved bugs and being a PS3 exclusive in Japan, it still managed to overcome both these shortfalls to be the highest seller. Meanwhile, The Limited Box edition of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus shifted 91,902 units claiming the second spot while the games were also sold individually in Japan. ICO sold 7,941 units while Colossus managed an equally impressive 13,420 units. Here’s the full list courtesy of Andriasang.
