First Impressions: Attack On Titan Season 2 Episode 1

One of the most watched anime’s and a massive fan favourite returned on the weekend for season two, thanks to Anime Lab. Attack On Titan Season Two premiered with a thumping new OP and great action to boot in just the first episode. Farrah and Japandaman break down episode 1, Beast Titan.

Japandaman Breakdown

Ok, I’ll try to keep this spoiler free but first off…Titans have been hiding where?? Right from the first minute, revelations and more questions are raised so if you thought answers were coming after season one, we may have to wait a bit longer. It’s great to see that some fan favourites are back even though we’re yet to see them in action. Also good to see some new characters introduced straight away with some substance to them. The episode starts nicely building the tension and drama that we’ve become accustomed to, however it isn’t long before the Titans show up and start wreaking havoc. We find out early on that Wall Rose has been breached which transitions nicely into some action for the rest of the episode without letting up the pace.

Miche is a character that kicks some ass during this action sequence who we learn is only second to Levi for his fighting skills, he’s amazing. Whether or not he’s around for a while for us to get used to, well… There’s a nice flashback scene with Eren and Mikasa before cutting back to the main storyline but we’re yet to see them in action this early on. The Titans as usual are creepy, scary and just have all sorts of wrong expressions on their faces and yes, there’s already a variety of different ones in the first episode. The animation on the horses when there’s lots happening on screen is quite stunning and the 3D effect comes across very cleanly with an exceptionally high level of wow factor thrown in.

It’s obviously very early in the season but if the rest of the episodes follow the action and tension of this first episode, then anime fans are definitely in for a treat. And oh yeah, keep an eye for the Titan who the episode is named after. He’s something very different in more ways than one. I can wait and see what direction they take him in, I really hope there’s a cool story arc in there around him.

Farrah Breakdown

Attack on Titan is back baby!

I am going to keep this short and sweet and avoid using spoilers because I feel that it wouldn’t be right. If there was one show that made you feel like you have been punched in the face from pure brilliance it was the premiering episode for season two. This show managed to capture my interest from the very start. The slight recap of what has happened previously was welcomed, as it has been many years since the original series has been shown.

The show has this new intensity that I haven’t felt in a while watching an action filled anime. The characters show a new depth and have clearly developed which is something I did wonder we would see. The interesting thing for me though is even though you know that there is some clear progression it still feels like we have never been apart from this world for long.

This first episode was gruesome as hell. If I were to compare this show with a live action this show would clearly be the anime version of ‘The Walking Dead’. Unexpected deaths and shock value hit you straight away (that poor horse). The show is already establishing that things are dark, things are depressing, and that there is the need for a hero.

If I had to find some faults for this episode I would probably say it was the opening theme song. It just didn’t have that same iconic feel as oppose to the previous season but it does seem like a theme that people will grow to love as the series goes on.

It is definitely a show I can see myself watching week after week, leaving me desperately wanting more. I am so glad that we have this show back in our lives and that we have this unique story being unfolded through this medium. It had the right amount of comedy to balance out the seriousness of the story.

For a first impression I give this show a 4/5

Welcome back Attack on Titan, we have missed you.

Attack On Titan PS4 Footage

Just came across this awesome footage from the newly released in Japan title, Attack On Titan. It’s great to see some of the in game action which look fantastic, I’m a fan of the series and I really can’t for a Western release. Here’s the footage which goes for over 2 minutes and also features Titan Eren kicking some massive Titan ass!

Is anyone else waiting for this title?

Attack On Titan Arcade Game Has Unique Control System

We briefly mentioned the arcade game of hugely popular series, Attack On Titan, making an appearance at a recent trade show but we’ve only seen recently is the amazing control system the game features. In a show of making you feel really immersed in the game, the controller is in a fact a dual controller system not unlike the 3D Manoeuvre Gear that’s featured in the series.

Very amazing and extremely innovative control method!

I just love that everyone playing the game is in cosplay!

Attack On Titan PS4 Intro

I’m a pretty big fan of Attack on Titan as a series. I’ve watched the anime and can’t wait for the 2nd season and also read quite a bit of the manga. The live action movies were hit and miss for me but to each their own, right?

Anyways, while we wait for the second season the good folks over at Koei Tecmo have been hard at work on a AoT game for the PS3, PS4 and the PS Vita. The game recently touched down in Japan and with that was the release of the opening cinematic for the PS4 version of the game. Needles to say, it looks amazing and very fast paced full of the very same action that made the series a runawaway success. But don’t take my word for it, roll the video!

And the best news is, the game is headed to the West later this year. Really can’t wait to play some of this on the Vita and PS4.

Attack On Neko Spotted

Just to prove that cosplay isn’t just for humans, here’s an adorable kitty that was spotted in Taiwan sporting some Attack on Titan cosplay. It was all in aid of the live action AoT movie which recently had its premiere in Taiwan so the local distributors of the movie put together this little promotional event. The cat, 鱈魚子Mini, was dressed as Captain Levi from the Survey Corps. Check out the pics from the event below plus some of Mini just chilling.

Attack On Titan Live Action Full Trailer

Just had to share this trailer for the upcoming first installment of the live action movie version of Attack on Titan. I had been dying to see the corps in action with their 3D maneuvering gear and this trailer finally shows it and yes…it looks great! For those in Australia, here’s a link to the official movie site with a list of cinema locations that’s showing the film. Get along to it but for now…here’s the trailer!

Attack On Titan Live Action Trailer

Shingeki no Kyojin, or as it’s known in the West, Attack on Titan, is a hugely popular dramatic series which started life as a manga before evolving into a superior anime series. The series has so far spawned one season however a second season will be released as well. But before that, there’s a live action movie being released in two parts. The first part will be hitting Japanese theatres on August 1st while the second one releases on September 19th.

Here’s your first look trailer at the live action movie which is looking pretty great with some scary CGI titans. No action scenes of Mikasa, Levi, Eren or anyone else but this is only a teaser 30 second trailer. Fingers crossed the next trailer has more footage.

Hot Levi Anyone?

It’s not a secret that Levi from Attack on Titan has won himself a legion of adoring female fans but with the release of a new figure, he looks set to reach new levels of bringing sexy back. The new figure from Union Creative sees Levi lounging on a seat with those bedroom eyes holding a cup of coffee. The figure itself is quite beautiful and features some nice detail but doesn’t come cheap at ¥16, 500. There is a non deluxe version which carries a price tag of ¥12, 500 as it doesn’t come with the extra faces or additional poses. Both figures are set to be released in November so keep your eyes peeled for them around then.

Pre-orders are now open for the non deluxe edition, for more info head here.

Attack On Titan 3D Manoeuvre Gear For New Museum

There are quite a few Attack on Titan fans that will be excited at the next bit of news. Osaka, Japan is now host to a new AoT museum that just opened. Like a lot of things of this nature, the museum is time limited being open until February 16 but their main attraction will need to be seen to be believed.

The museum has a life sized replica of the 3D manoeuvre gear as seen in the show and used by the Corps. This is all being put together to start the hype machine rolling for the live action adaptation movie of the anime due some time in 2015.

It’s all taking place at the Osaka ATC (Asia & Pacific Trade Center) with the charge to enter being ¥800. It’s open from 1PM through to 8PM with a last entry shut off at 7:30PM on weekdays while on weekends, it’s from 10AM until 5PM on Saturdays. And with a really cool twist, the promo posters for the attraction advise patrons to come decked out in cosplay. Only in Japan.
