Nintendo has been known to employ the services of pop stars in the past such as when they required the star status of K-Pop group, Girls’ Generation, to advertise the 3DS in Korea.
Now they’re looking at doing something similar with the lucrative Taiwanese market by employing the services of girl group, S.H.E., to star in commercials for the 3DS. The girls will be doing commercials for Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. Nintendo have gone one step further by allowing you to copy the Miis of the girls to your 3DS via the scanning of their QR codes which you can find below and underneath, a clip of the girls in action performing their hit, Shero, from a couple of years ago.
One of the most popular titles in Japan for the 3DS has continued its winning streak by becoming the first game to break through the 2 million units sold barrier.
Animal Crossing New Leaf was only released in November but it’s already proven that it’s a huge hit with the Japanese gaming public. ACNL managed to beat out other huge franchises such as Mario Kart 7, Monster Hunter 3G and Super Mario 3D Land to the record breaking milestone.
NeoGAF user, Road, has made a fancy animated graph showing off the rise and success of the Animal Crossing in sales compared to other titles, it’s amazing to watch!
Another new ad featuring Aruka Hayase has recently begun to air on Japanese television where she’s playing Super Mario 3D Land on her 3DS and it’s just as charming as the other commercials, showing her playing the game with obvious excitement and delight. Funny thing is, the tv spot doesn’t illustrate a new feature of the game but emphasises the fun she’s having while she plays. Cute, check it out below.
Celebrities in Japan often throw their star power behind games to give them a little push and to show they anyone who’s anyone can play games and still have a good time.
The latest star to jump on the promotional trail is Haruka Ayase who will next be seen playing the title character’s daughter in Zatoichi chambara update Ichi as well as Production I.G’s CG-animated Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror.
Below you’ll find the latest TV ad for the promotion of Nintendo’s latest opus, Super Mario 3D Land…it’s pretty cute!
I support and like PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, I really do but sometimes I think they are truly bored and have run out of things to complain about. Next on their radar is Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS and the welcome addition of a fan favourite item, the Tanooki Suit. This is a Raccoon dog suit that Mario picks up as a power up and enables him to float around when jumping from a great height. He doesn’t harm or kill any real animal in the game but PETA seem to think that the use of the suit promotes and encourages the harm towards animals in general.
The following quote is from the PETA website:
When on a mission to rescue the princess, Mario has been known to use any means necessary to defeat his enemy — even wearing the skin of a raccoon dog to give him special powers.
Tanooki may be just a “suit” in Mario games, but in real life, tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it’s OK to wear fur.
As a gamer I can’t believe that they really have to resort to these kind of tactics and comments, I’m surprised they haven’t said anything about Mario’s treatment about turtles in the game…I should stop before I give them fuel for their next rant.
In fact Japandaman Dailies’ very own Raccoon dog, Kendo, had the following statement issued through official channels.
“I, as a Raccoon dog, feel no ill will towards Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario or Luigi for that matter. I enjoy playing the game on my 3DS and get a kick out of seeing my brothers and sisters on the screen. I feel that PETA has gone too far this time and maybe needs to relax just a little and play the game themselves just to see that my kind are presented in a positive light and no harm is intended to my kind.”
So there you have, Kendo has spoken and is completely fine with the situation so PETA, chill and focus on real animal cruelty please?
A whole batch of images have been released, as seen below, of Super Mario 3D Land however you can download the images by clicking here, copying them to your “DCIM” folder on your 3DS SD card and voila…3D images and yes, they’re amazing!! Some new box art was revealed yesterday for two of the biggest games to appear on 3DS. First up there’s the box art for Mario Kart 7 which looks very sweet as well as the box art for Super Mario 3D Land which also looks very cool and 3D-ish 🙂 Can’t wait for either of these games to come out, should be awesome with the online play that Mario Kart will bring and the lush visuals shown of for Mario Land make it a must get!
