Japan Weekly Sales Charts 8/4/13 – 14/4/13

Yep, that awesome time of the week has rolled around again. Japan weekly sales charts time! This is the time where we can sit down and see what’s selling on the hardware and software front in Japan.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is still doing great business taking the number one spot again while the PS Vita woes continue with Sony’s handheld just having one game in the top 10. From a hardware side, the 3DS and the 3DS XL are still sitting pretty in the number one position. The brief surge in sales that the PS Vita enjoyed seem to be well and truly over with low sales once again. Last week, the PS Vita had just over 19k in sales and this week it’s down to the 14 mark.

Looks like the PS Vita better have some more strong software released for it ASAP as the price drop seems to have all but been forgotten by the buying public.

Japan Weekly Sales Charts 25/3/13 – 31/3/13

But credit to the PS Vita, its sales have jumped up considerably since the price cut, selling through 31,795 units, it’s down from last weeks figure of 41,073 units but still a sight better than the sub 10k units it was shifting a month ago.

Japan Weekly Sales Charts 4/3/13 – 10/3/13

Yep, weekly sales charts time fresh from Japan. And this week there’s been a shake-up! What everyone has been thinking about as being unthinkable has happened.

The Nintendo 3DS has been toppled from the top of the hardware charts by the Sony PS Vita. The Vita has been enjoying a massive surge in sales, pushed along by the recent price drop making both the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi/3G model the same exact price, ¥19, 980. And now this week saw the launch of the eagerly anticipated title, Soul Sacrifice, which pushed Vita sales along as well.

But, the question on everyone’s lips is, is this a permanent change for the Vita? Have Japanese gamers finally embraced Sony’s handheld over the 3DS or is it only a temporary reprieve for Sony? We can’t wait to see what happens in next weeks charts!

Japan Weekly Sales Charts 18/2/13 – 24/2/13

That time of the week is upon us again…Japanese Weekly Sales Charts. I’m not even going to waffle on about what came in first for hardware, it’s been the same thing for over a year now. But there was a massive surprise with the PS Vita outselling the Wii U for the first time in Japan.

Should Nintendo be worried though? Probably not, not when you see the sales of the 3DS and the 3DS LL (XL) combined which accounted for in excess of 74 thousand units shifted. The only hardware that was even close to that was the PS3 with 18,529 units sold. Sales of the PS Vita can’t be attributed to a game release as there’s nothing in the top 10 for the Vita so it is curious to see. We’ll see how it pans out next week for the Wii U.

Software Charts

  1. [PS3] Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
  2. [3DS] Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden
  3. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  4. [3DS] Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
  5. [PSP] Toaru Majutsu no Kagaku no Gun Sou Katsugeki

  8. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
  9. [3DS] Fantasy Life
  10. [3DS] Taiko Drum Master: Chibi Dragon and the Mysterious Orb

Japan Weekly Sales Charts

Woah, either we reported the sales charts late last week or the space/time continuum has shifted and time has sped up? Probably the first one as it’s that time of the week again, Japan weekly sale charts time!

Between the 3DS XL and the 3DS, Nintendo have got such a momentum going that it looks like nothing will catch up to them anytime soon. The Wii U is have having less than stellar sales but it’s still keeping its head above water by maintaining sales of above 10k. The PS Vita nearly broke 10k sales this week which is good to see but does anyone think it can catch up to Nintendo?

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate released for the 3DS coming in at 6th spot, this is usually a HUGE franchise for the system it’s on so it puzzling that it didn’t rank higher on the charts. Maybe it released halfway through the sales period but we’re keen to see where it will rank next week.

Software Charts

  1. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  2. [3DS] Fantasy Life

Japan Weekly Sales Charts

Time for another update to see what’s been selling in Japan for both software and hardware! Animal Crossing: New Leaf for the 3DS took out the first place ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the PS3 which is surprising. Just goes to show that more people are into the simulation genre than the hardcore FPS genre in Japan.

The 3DS still sits pretty o top of the hardware charts selling an impressive 162,077 units while in second place the PS3 sold 34,167 units. That is a huge difference considering that CoD was in second place on the software charts. Meanwhile the woes continue for the PS Vita with sales dipping below 10k again with 9,712 units sold. The full breakdown is below.

Software charts

  1. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  2. [PS3] Call of Duty: Black Ops II – Subtitled Edition

Japan Weekly Sales Charts

That time of the week where the sales charts from Media Create come in from Japan and as always, the Nintend 3DS continues to reign supreme. The day that we’ve been talking about for ages has come, that day being the time when PS Vita sales drop below 10k. Disappointing.

The 3DS shifted a massive 63,796 units which is truly astounding when you consider how long the unit has been out for in Japan and yet it continues to sell like it was released a couple of months ago, amazing. Another incredible fact is that the aging and outgoing PSP managed to sell more units than the PS Vita to the tune of 4, 916 units!!

Where can the Vita be going wrong?

Software Charts

  1. [PSP] 2nd Super Robot Wars Z: Saisei-hen
  2. [3DS] Kingdom Hearts 3D -Dream Drop Distance
  3. [3DS] Super Mario 3D Land
  4. [PSP] Pro Baseball Spirits 2012
  5. [3DS] Kid Icarus: Uprising
  6. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3G
  7. [PS3] Pro Baseball Spirits 2012
  8. [3DS] Mario Kart 7
  9. [NDS] Pokemon Conquest
  10. [3DS] Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Hardware Charts

  • Nintendo 3DS: 63,796
  • PlayStation 3: 17,765
  • PSP: 13,166
  • PlayStation Vita: 8,250

  • PlayStation 2: 1, 212

Weekly Sales Charts – 3DS Over Vita…Again

The latest sales figures are in from Japan and really, I know I’ve said it before, but there are no surprises once again. The 3DS continues to lead the charge once again showing that it isn’t about who has the most powerful hardware but more about who has the better software and the most innovation.

Vita fans can argue til they’re blue in the face that the Vita delivers, and in spades, over the 3DS but the sale figures certainly don’t reflect that, not at all. So without further ado, the sale charts.

  • Nintendo 3DS: 76,322
  • PlayStation 3: 27,111
  • PSP: 15,928
  • PlayStation Vita: 11,186
  • Wii: 7,878
  • Nintendo DS: 1,639
  • Xbox 360: 1,508
  • PlayStation 2: 1,269

Ouch for Sony, the PSP sold more than the Vita? That’s got to be a slap in the face when last generation hardware is selling more than current generation. It doesn’t get much better on the software front either I’m afraid.

  1. [PSP] Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave
  2. [3DS] Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin
  3. [PS3] Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Storm Generation
  4. [PSP] I Don’t Have Many Friends Portable
  5. [PS3] Asura’s Wrath
  6. [PSP] Nendoroid Generation
  7. [3DS] Super Mario 3D Land
  8. [3DS] Mario Kart 7
  9. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3G
  10. [PS3] The Idolmaster: Gravure For You! Vol.5

No software for the Vita in the top ten? Disastrous. We’ll see what happens next week but it looks like the time when the Vita sales dip below 10K isn’t too far away. Don’t forget, it only took less than a handful of week to fall below 20K.
