Gaming Life In Japan ~ 18/8/14 – 24/8/14

Late again but here’s last week’s sales figures straight from Japan!

The top spot was taken once again by Yokai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke for the Nintendo 3DS while a new entry for the PS4 takes second place. That game is The Last Of Us, the remastered version.

The PS Vita enjoys a new game in third spot with Bullet GirlsDiablo III: Reaper of Souls Ultimate Evil Edition for the PS4 and the PS3 took out positions four and five, another new release with a Playstation one-two attack! The Wii U is enjoying some success with Hyrule Warriors in sixth place while Yoshi’s New Island for the 3DS sits in seventh. Mario Kart 8 is still hanging around in ninth as Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission 2 for the 3DS rounds out the top ten. Bit of a mixed bag last week for the charts with no real domination by any company.

Having a look at hardware sales, the unbeatable 3DS is still the hardware king in Japan with 28,788 units sold last week.

A new entry for the PS Vita from SCEJ, Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, takes second spot while Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea from Gust for the PS3 takes third. That’s also a new entry into the Japanese chart. Bandai Namco sees a new title enter in fourth spot for the 3DS, that game being Gundam Try Age SP. No more new entries after that with Mario Kart 8 and Yokai Watch taking fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Freedom Wars with over 1.2 million units sold, takes seventh place while looking ahead to tenth spot, we see Watch Dogs for the PS3 raking up just under 60K in sales.

Checking out hardware sales, are you really expecting anything different by now? Nope! The 3DS is still the favourite handheld for Japan with 31,192 units sold for the week. The PS Vita manages to take the second spot with 27,352 units sold while the once struggling Wii U seems to be alright with 8,209 units sold. The Wii U seems to be constantly in third place which is different from months ago where it was constantly in a lot lower in the charts. Sony’s latest console, the PlayStation 4, looks like it hasn’t struck a chord yet with gamers languishing in fifth spot behind the older PS3.

Time for another look at Japanese gaming with Gaming Life in Japan!

Just for a change, there weren’t too many new releases the past week when compared to the previous week. But it’s enough to see Freedom Wars on the PS Vita hold onto the coveted number one spot.

Yokai Watch for the 3DS took out second position while Taiko Drum Master: Don and Katsu’s Space-Time Great Adventure also for the 3DS took third spot. Mario Kart 8 is still a crowd favourite in fourth place while spots five and six sees a Watch Dogs double with the PS4 and PS3 respectively taking their spots. Looking at the other end of the scale, we have a surprise entry with Grand Theft Auto V Low Price Version for the PS3 at number ten.

The Wii U sees some attention as well with enough units sold to enjoy fourth place. The Playstation family makes another appearance with the PS4 and PS3 in fourth and fifth places respectively.
